MAX3543 Tuner 'Exceeds Can Tuner Performance'

Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX3543, a broadband, multi-standard silicon tuner for worldwide hybrid televisions as well as terrestrial and cable set-top boxes. Developed using Maxim's Bicmos process technology, the device offers good tuner performance using a standard IF architecture that ensures <-70dBc spurs. With the MAX3543, the company said customers can use a single silicon pinout for all major worldwide television standards.

It offers high-quality signal reception in demanding environments by offering sensitivity, a 4dB noise figure and good blocker performance. The device is said to exceed can tuner performance and eliminates the unwanted spurs common in other silicon tuners. In addition, its design architecture eliminates the need for external components such as SAW filters. Maxim claimed this integration enables a 75 per cent reduction in space and 25 per cent reduction in cost over competing solutions, including can tuners.

Implementation complexity is reduced with a low-cost, single-sided, two-layer PCB design, which requires minimal external components. The MAX3543 is packaged in a lead-free, 6 x 6mm, 40-pin TQFN package, and is fully specified over the 0C to +70C temperature range. An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
