Ward To Exhibit Lathes And Turning Centres At Mach

Ward CNC will demonstrate at least six lathes and turning centres at the upcoming Mach 2010 event, which will be held at the NEC in Birmingham. The company claims that it offers machines to suit a range of turning/turning-centre demands. Ward CNC will showcase five machines from the Hyundai-Kia range. Being demonstrated under power, the SKT 180 TTSY multi-tasking twin-/sub-spindle turning centre with Y axis has a maximum turning diameter and length of 230mm and 700mm respectively.

The 65mm-bar capacity machine has spindle speeds (on both spindles) of 5,000rev/min and features a 12-tool station on each turret. Travels in X, Z, ZB and Y are 165/190mm, 700mm, 720mm and 100mm respectively, while rapid traverse rates in X, Z, ZB and Y are 20m/min, 40m/min, 40m/min and 7.5m/min respectively. Also under power, the SKT 2100 multi-tasking mill/turn centre with Y axis has a maximum turning diameter and length of 240mm and 530mm respectively. This 65mm-bar capacity machine has spindle speeds of 4,000rev/min (main spindle) and 6,000rev/min (sub-spindle) and features a 12-tool station turret.

Travels in X, Z, ZB and Y are 220mm, 550mm, 750mm and 80mm respectively, while rapid traverse rates are 36m/min in X and Z, 30m/min in ZB and 10m/min in Y. Also under power, the 65mm-bar capacity SKT-200 two-axis lathe has a maximum turning diameter and length of 290mm and 300mm respectively, spindle speeds of 4,000rev/min from a 15kW motor and X- and Z-axis travels of 210mm and 330mm respectively, with complementary traverse rates of 36m/min in both axes. The SKT-200 also offers a compact, space-saving design. Continuing the two-axis theme, the SKT-400LC has a maximum turning diameter and length of 630mm and 2,150mm respectively. This 117mm-bar capacity machine has spindle speeds of 2,000rev/min from the 37kW motor and X- and Z-axis travels of 320mm and 2,200mm respectively, with traverse rates of 20m/min in both axes.

Also from the Hyundai-Kia stable, the SKT-300 two-axis CNC lathe on show has a maximum turning diameter and length of 560mm and 720mm respectively. This 90mm-bar capacity machine has spindle speeds of 2,500rev/min from the 26kW motor and X- and Z-axis travels of 355mm and 750mm respectively, with traverse rates of 20m/min and 24m/min in X and Z respectively. The SKT-300 offers users a high-torque geared headstock for heavy cutting. Complementing these will be the Hankook Protec 9NC x 4000 heavy-duty flatbed lathe.

This large-capacity machine has a maximum turning diameter and length of 950mm and 3,845mm respectively, along with spindle speeds of 630rev/min from the 30kW motor. Travels in X and Z are 535mm and 3,845mm respectively, while the rapid traverse rate in Z is 6m/min. Also equipped with rear headstock support chuck and boring equipment, the Protec range of lathes has found use in the oilfield equipment sector. Completing Ward CNC's turning display will be the Hankook VTC-100 compact vertical lathe, which will also be under power. This has a 1,000mm-diameter table and a maximum turning diameter and height of 1,250mm and 800mm respectively.

The machine can accommodate workpieces weighing 4,000kg, has a 30/37kW main motor and features an ATC of 24 tools. The company's 500m2 stand will also accommodate a Hyundai-Kia vertical machining centre; a trio of vertical machining centres from Hartford; and the Soraluce TA35-A CNC milling machine. In addition, Ward CNC's range of large-capacity Union machines will be represented by graphics displays and video footage and details will also be available of Ward CNC Finance and the activities of the Ward CNC Retrofit Division.
