Keithley CD Offers Electrical Measurement Advice

Keithley Instruments has released a tutorial CD that offers practical techniques for obtaining the most accurate and precise measurements possible. The company's 'A guide to understanding electrical test and measurement' CD is said to cover all aspects of measurement performance, including how to troubleshoot, how to connect and how to select instruments.

The CD contains a range of application notes, white papers and webcasts on a variety of test and measurement topics. Instrument options cover digital multimeters, source and measure instruments, and function/pulse/arbitrary/pattern generators. Application examples range from accelerated stress testing to wireless device testing. When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
