GE Upgrades Visualisation And Control Software

GE Intelligent Platforms has released version 8.1 of its industry-standard Proficy software, Cimplicity, a visualisation and control solution. The software can be applied in a range of industries, including oil and gas, discrete manufacturing, power generation, and marine and energy industries. The solution features programming enhancements, regulatory compliance tools and an alarm association feature, in addition to full compatibility with GE's Cimplicity Globalview, allowing web access to the HMI/SCADA solution.

Cimplicity 8.1 introduces enhancements that enable more flexible classes to speed new product development and lower the total cost of maintaining large-scale systems. Standards compliance, regulatory penalty avoidance and good manufacturing practices are supported, as Cimplicity 8.1 introduces a change-approval feature that enables an electronic signature before allowing setpoint changes, recording results to an audit trail with commenting capability. A change approval system, or e-signature, enables Cimplicity to be used in a wider range of applications and is commonly used for helping to meet 21 CFR part 11, NERC and FERC regulations.

Cimplicity 8.1 enables root-cause analysis and instant alarm analytics for quick operator resolution. It delivers full compatibility with Cimplicity Globalview, enabling a full-featured client within a browser and providing expanded application usage and mobilisation of workforce. This enables support for hundreds of simultaneous users and expands the application within the plant. The product also offers compatibility with legacy Microsoft platforms and applicable Proficy products.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
