Bete Supplies Nozzles For Ethylene Application

Bete has supplied custom-designed Maxipass nozzles for a chemical processing application that involved oil quenching in the production of ethylene. Ethylene feedstock is usually ethane, propane, butane or a number of other feedstocks. The feedstock is mixed with steam and heated to a temperature of about 1,500F to cause the reaction that converts it to ethylene in the pyrolysis furnace.

It is downstream from the pyrolysis furnace where Bete's specialist nozzle expertise is required, as part of the cooling process where it is necessary to cool the process stream in order for the chemical reactions to take place correctly. This is accomplished by injecting oil into the process stream to reduce the temperature and it is critical to have a good spraying pattern into the process stream to ensure effective cooling, according to the company.

Bete was given a specification that gave the temperature and pressure outside the nozzle, along with the temperature, viscosity, type of fluid, density and available pressure across the nozzle. The solution was the Bete Maxipass series of nozzles, which is designed for hydrocarbon feed applications. This nozzle offers a uniform distribution and a good drop size and is available in a range of materials. The material chosen was 316L stainless, which the company has many years of experience fabricating.

Bete is a distributor of standard and custom-designed spraying solutions for a range of industries and applications. Orders are handled from stock-holding facilities and are supported by technical and application support. Bete is also an exclusive distributor for spray nozzle specialist Bete Fog Nozzle and pre-treatment spraying systems manufacturer Uni-Spray Systems.

The standard range of industrial spray nozzles consists of thousands of different options in many different materials, including brass, stainless steels, Hastelloy, Stellite and Tantalum. More than 65 per cent of the company's production is geared towards custom solutions. Bete also offers economical, customised, non-corrosive nozzle systems, couplers and adaptors in PVC, CPVC, polypropylene, PVDF and stainless steel that are suitable for pre-treatment applications.
