Jones & Shipman acquired by L. Kellenberger + Co. AG

The assets of Jones & Shipman were acquired by L. Kellenberger & Co. AG which is part of the Hardinge group. Jones & Shipman joins the Hardinge Grinding Group, (HGG), which already includes such prestigious precision grinding companies as, Kellenberger, Hauser, Tschudin and Tripet.

Jones & Shipman will continue to operate as a UK registered company manufacturing precision Surface, Cylindrical and Creepfeed grinding machines from its Leicester facility under the leadership of its current management team, who strongly support this acquisition.

Our customers will now access a wider product range, to include, CNC jig, internal, surface, creep feed grinders with an extensive range of cylindrical grinding solutions covering “one off” tool room requirements, right through to dedicated automated production cells.

Further key customer benefits include enlarged support team world-wide and an increased capacity for future product and process developments, ensuring our customers will continue to enjoy access to the very latest developments and remain at the forefront of grinding technology.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
