Schroff Enclosures Suitable For Hazardous Areas

Schroff has launched the Zonex range of stainless steel wall-mount enclosures, which are Atex certified for housing electronic or electrical equipment in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous locations. Manufactured by Hoffman, the enclosures are particularly suitable for terminal and junction applications and can be supplied with factory-fitted terminal blocks if required.

As well as featuring lift-off door hinges for ease of access, the enclosures can be specified with either one or three gland plates, depending on requirements of each individual application. The Zonex enclosures are fabricated from Type 316 stainless steel for corrosion resistance, while high-temperature silicone sealing gaskets are used on the doors and gland plates.

Available in a range of sizes from 260 x 260 x 160mm to 762 x 508 x 205mm, the enclosures are supplied with side-mount hanging brackets as standard, and optional accessories include DIN rails, panels, breather drains, stopping plus and terminal blocks.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
