Major Utility Buys South-Tek Nitrogen Generators

South-Tek Systems has won a contract to supply a major utility with two 2,250 SCFH nitrogen generators for a 600MW (nominal) 2 x 1 combined-cycle power plant. Nitrogen gas can be used for purging, inerting or blanketing an atmosphere to inhibit corrosion within boiler tubes, condensers and steam drums, as well as to increase safety, efficiency, consistency and quality of a product or environment.

Nitrogen generators make producing and supplying the appropriate amount of nitrogen gas easier, more reliable and cost efficient. South-Tek will design, furnish, fabricate, assemble, test and deliver the nitrogen generators, and will also support their installation, testing and commissioning.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
