Heidenhain CNC System Retrofitted At Nelson Tools

Electron Engineering Services has retrofitted a Heidenhain TNC 320 CNC system to a SIP Series 740 jig borer at Nelson Tools. Designed for milling, drilling and boring machines, the TNC 320 features workshop-oriented/conversational programming via a TFT 15in monitor that presents a clear overview of all relevant information - for instance, program blocks, comments and error messages.

Additional information is provided through graphic support during program entry, test run and actual machining. The selectable split-screen display shows the part-program blocks in one half of the screen and the graphics or the status display in the other half. During the course of the program, status displays offer information on tool position, current program, active cycles and coordinate transformations, plus other data such as current machining time.

Electron's Activities on the SIP jig borer also included: retrofit of analogue drives and motors; fitting axis-measurement feedback systems - Heidenhain slimline LS487 linear scales and encoders; new electrical panel with new interface equipment; and operator/programmer training.
