ABB Launches Small PLC Solution For Automation

The AC500-eCo provides a small PLC solution for industrial automation applications, particularly as part of a standalone environment. The selection is said to offer a cost-effective solution for smaller projects. The AC500-eCo has been designed to enhance the flexible and scalable concept of the AC500 PLC line. Part of the AC500-eCo package is a range of communication options, including Modbus master/slave or CS31.

The 128kB user memory and a program-processing time of 0.1us/instruction are two examples of the AC500-eCo's performance. In addition to its interoperability with the existing AC500 range, the AC500-eCo system is configured and programmed using the PS501 Control Builder AC500 - based on Codesys. This programming software for the whole AC500 range complies with the EN 61131-3 standard, including five programming languages to provide customers with a single, simple and integrated software platform. With three new CPU and four new IO devices, ABB continues to expand the AC500-eCo offering.

For example, the CPU versions offer integrated digital and analogue inputs and outputs, along with relay outputs. CPUs can be provided in 24V DC or 100-240V AC power-supply versions, according to the customer's requirements. Relay and triac output modules, together with a 100-240V AC digital input module, are added to the S500-eCo IO range. The IO module DX571, which combines digital inputs and relay outputs in one module, allows customised application solutions. The simple system structure, standardised interfaces and programming environment are said to allow quick and easy configuration.
