‘aluPLUS’ – Setting New Standards For Aluminium Enclosures

ROLEC has launched its new range of aluPLUS standard aluminium enclosures, incorporating many modern features previously unique to its aluCASE designer series. The new aluPLUS enclosures offer electronics designers a much higher degree of sophistication previously unavailable in this segment of the diecast enclosures market. Effectively aluPLUS gives them the best of both worlds: high quality designer features – such as clip-on trims – in cost effective standard industry sizes.

Typical applications for aluPLUS include process control equipment, monitoring and detection systems, flow metering, industrial measuring devices, terminal housings, electrical equipment and machine controllers. Unlike older diecast enclosures on the market, aluPLUS has a very modern ‘sharp’ external design which includes unique snap-on design trims. These fit into the lid section and hide both the assembly and mounting screws, providing a clean appearance with no visible fixing screws. With aluPLUS, it is no longer necessary to machine the lid to fit membrane keypads or polycarbonate labels – a 1.7mm recessed area is already provided.

Also, external mounting brackets are no longer required as the enclosures can be mounted to a wall or machine while still assembled. So there is no need to remove the lid – thus avoiding any possible damage to the components or sealing gasket. The clip-on trims are simply snapped into place after the unit is mounted. All aluPLUS housings are rated as IP66, making them a welcome new addition to the extensive range of IP66 enclosures offered by ROLEC. The aluPLUS cases can also be specified as IP67 enclosures and IP69K with special factory-fitted gaskets. These industrial enclosures are manufactured in diecast aluminium and powder painted in a fine textured light grey, RAL 7035.

At launch, the aluPLUS range is available in the four most popular industry standard sizes: 122 x 120 x 82mm, 220 x 120 x 82mm, 160 x 160 x 90mm and 260 x 160 x 90mm. Other industry standard sizes are planned. Screw bosses are provided in the base and lid sections for PCBs, mounting plates, earth leads and other components (screws included). Prices for aluPLUS electronic enclosures start at £49. Accessories include special lid fixing screws with integrated retaining straps. These keep the lid in situ during installation and servicing.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays.
