Compact Industrial PCs Balance Energy Efficiency and CPU Power

The VL BPC 1000 is the latest addition to Phoenix Contact’s Valueline family of configurable industrial PCs. The heart of the VL BPC 1000 is the energy-efficient Intel Atom® N455 1.6 GHz CPU.

The VL BPC 1000 is powered with 24 V DC. It is fanless, DIN rail-mountable and comes in a compact form factor that saves valuable panel space. Four USB ports, two gigabit LAN ports and three serial ports make it easy to connect to the enterprise and other devices. A  VGA port provides the ability to connect a display for visualization, such as the Phoenix Contact flat panel monitors.

Valueline is a family of configurable industrial PCs that provides versatile options for the operation and monitoring of systems and machines. When combined with other Phoenix Contact automation components, Valueline can create a complete, customized solution.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
