2012 Dates Announced for City & Guilds Gas Equipment Inspectors Course

Murex Welding Products has announced dates for its 2012 City & Guilds Accredited Gas Equipment Inspectors training courses.  Certification and Recertification Courses are designed for safety officers, maintenance staff, supervisors, technical college and school staff as well as anyone else responsible for the safety aspects of oxy-fuel gas systems.   All the two-day Certification Courses are conducted at the company's Waltham Cross HQ.  They provide qualifications that allow individuals to conduct full safety checks on oxy-fuel gas welding systems.  The first part of the course covers theoretical instruction on oxy-fuel gas safety, the properties of gases, safe use and operation of systems.  The second day is entirely devoted to practical training and "hands on" sessions teach the candidates how to fully test an oxy-fuel gas station and pass it off for safe use. 

 2012 Certification course dates are:

15th & 16th February
21st & 22nd March
23rd & 24th May
19th & 20th September  
14th & 15th November 

The cost is £515 + vat

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
