Start of Bluetooth® SMART Module Mass Production —LBCA1ZZVZE—

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. will mass-produce a Bluetooth® SMART* module that supports the Bluetooth® low-energy standard, starting from June. This product will be exhibited within the Texas Instruments booth at "Wireless Japan 2012, " which will be held at Tokyo Big Site from May 30.

Bluetooth® low energy (BLE) is an ultra-low power communication technology that enables months to years of operation with a button battery. Widespread application is expected in various fields such as health management, fitness and home networks. In addition, BLE has also been adopted as a communication method by the Continua® Health Alliance, a non-profit organization of leading healthcare and technology industry companies.

BLE is being successively adopted for use in mobile terminals such as smartphones and tablet terminals, and expectations are increasing for BLE as a means of seamlessly connecting mobile terminals with health management devices such as blood pressure meters and bathroom scales, and battery-driven devices such as wristwatches and compact sensors.

For example, data can be collected and managed between mobile terminals and wireless health devices equipped with BLE, enabling health management anytime, anywhere. In addition, devices connected to smartphones and other applications are also expected to expand in the future.

To meet these market needs, Murata has worked to develop a Bluetooth® SMART module that supports the Bluetooth® low-energy standard, and will start mass production from June of this year.
