6-Position PDL Connector Enhances Solutions For Multifunctional Appliances

TE Connectivity today announced its new double-row crimp panel-mount connector solution that meets the market demand for multifunctional appliances – the 6-position power double lock (PDL) connector. Featuring a new resin material, retainer and ergonomic design, the connector incorporates glow wire option, terminal position assurance (TPA) and good handling properties.

"The PDL panel-mount connector mates with 4- and 2- position plug housings and features an asymmetrical polarized design that prevents mismating. The connector, which meets 9A/300VAC rating and GWT requirements, is a competitive solution for our customers in the appliance marketplace," said James Dunbar, global power and signal interconnects product manager, TE Appliances.

The PDL connector complies with UL94 V-0 and IEC 60335-1. TPA retainers help prevent contacts from backing out in applications with random vibration and ensure full contact insertion within the housing. TPA also provides additional retention force for more secure mating and performance. Moreover, the ergonomic design of the connector improves efficiency of workers on the shop floor. "The combination of these features allows us to meet our customers’ requirements throughout the world,” explains James.

The 6-position PDL connector, based on a 6.6X8.5mm centerline, mounts in a 30.6mm X 18.7mm panel cutout. Crimp contacts are available for 16 to 26 AWG wire sizes. The connector is interchangeable with similar products in the market to facilitate simple retrofitting.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays.
