Tektronix Oscilloscopes for System Troubleshooting

Tektronix has released two new versions of its performance oscilloscope series ranting from 500MHz to 8GHz designed to help embedded system design engineers quickly troubleshoot their designs. The offerings include the DPO7000C series and 4, 6 and 8GHz models in the MSO/DPO/DSA70000C series. The company also announced its expanded support for MIPI testing with new serial decode solutions for MIPI Alliance's CSI-2 and DSI specifications.

The DPO7000C series offers engineers an efficiency tool that combines analysis functionality for many applications into a single oscilloscope. It includes time-saving serial analysis solutions that enable designers to focus on solving design problems using robust tools for every stage of debug, from discovering that a problem exists to capturing it, then searching long records for all instances and analysing to find root cause. Tools such as the One Touch Jitter Wizard are said to simplify and automate even complex testing tasks.

The series is now available with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system for easier integration with data networks, intuitive operation and faster boot-up times. These products also feature a faster compute platform that provides quicker time to answer - up to three times faster time to answer on DPOJET Jitter measurements for example. They also provide full LXI Class C support for easier integration into automated test stations. DPO7000C series offers a comprehensive serial bus analysis with robust decode, trigger and search support for popular embedded system buses, including I2C, SPI, RS-232/422/485/UART, USB 2.0, MIPI CSI-2 and DSI specifications.

The MSO/DPO/DSA70000C series is said to provide a deeper level of analysis of challenges in high-performance design and verification for RF/microwave, serial data and semiconductor characterisation. The platform supports trigger, decode and search capability for popular embedded system buses along with high-speed timing analysis and compliance packages for standards including DDR3, USB 3.0, PCIE 3.0 and others. For embedded engineers that require performance beyond the 3.5GHz available in the DPO7000C, the 4, 6 and 8GHz models of the MSO/DPO/DSA70000C series are suitable.

The latest models incorporate a faster compute platform, deliver LXI Class C compliance and use the Windows 7 operating system. For the MSO70000C series, P6750 logic probes offer high-density DMAX footprint signal access on up to 16 logic channels. Improved debug capability with advanced search and mark, along with DPOJET Essentials are now standard on all instruments. MIPI Alliance specifications are gaining in use by manufacturers of wireless mobile devices as the communications bus between main components such as embedded controllers, cameras and displays.

These specifications help smartphone manufacturers reduce time-to-market and device integration costs while taking advantage of richer feature sets with higher bit rates. Tektronix now offers expanded support for the MIPI specifications with protocol decode and search for MIPI CSI-2 and DSI serial buses. This complements the range of testing capability for the emerging MIPI Alliance test requirements including MIPI D-PHY and MIPI M-PHY support on Tektronix DPO7000C and MSO/DPO/DSA70000C series oscilloscopes. The company has also announced a Tekexpress automation toolset for 100 per cent one-button compliance testing of MIPI D-PHY TX measurements.

Tektronix also provides DigRFv.4 logic testing with TLA7000 series logic analysers. DPO7000C series and 4, 6 and 8GHz MSO/DPO/DSA70000C series oscilloscopes and MIPI CSI-2 and DSI-1 support will be available from 12 April. Pricing starts at GBP13,000 for the DPO7000C.
