HBM Weighing Technology Available for Export to US
HBM's range of weighing technology is now available for applications in the US following a successful audit to meet Verified Conformity Assessment Program (VCAP) standards. According to the company, successful completion of the VCAP audit makes HBM loadcells a suitable choice for scale manufacturers seeking to export to the US. There are a number of technical requirements to be met before weighing technology components can be circulated in the US.
These requirements are covered in the National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) certificate of conformance that endorses compliance with the requirements. The NTEP certificate is obtained following a technical inspection of the weighing technology as well as on-site acceptance testing of the scales. These tests are conducted in parallel with the inspection and certification of the manufacturer's production and quality assurance systems, as verified by the VCAP certificate of conformity.
The audit must be performed by an external authority. The technical requirements are specified in the US National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) Handbook 44. NIST is comparable with the German National Metrology Institute (PTB) in Germany.
