Motion Module Designed for 1.5-Axis Applications

Yaskawa has introduced the MP2600iec motion module, a controller that is suitable for 1.5-axis applications in packaging, printing, metal, plastics and textile processing and handling. The new 1.5-axis controller can be used in standalone machine subsystems in modular mechatronics machine architectures. This IEC 61131-3 controller incorporates PLCopen Motion function blocks for 1.5-axis applications. Since motion control functions, a programmable logic controller and drive regulation are integrated in a single printed circuit board, it is possible to automate entire machine subsystems.

The MP2600iec 1.5-axis controller complements the MP2000iec controller line, which is often used in multi-axis applications. The MP2600iec is claimed to offer advantages in 1.5-axis applications such as coilers, cross cutters, flying saws or imprint/register controls, labelling and cam disks. The machine subsystem that is automated using the MP2600iec motion module receives its guide value from a master encoder and synchronises its slave axis to this guide value. Thanks to their modular design, the machine subsystems can be tested and commissioned individually.

The MP2600iec motion module supports communication via Ethernet I/P, Modbus TCP, OPC server and web browsers. On top of its master encoder input, the module contains eight digital inputs, eight digital outputs, one analogue input and one analogue output. All integrated inputs and outputs are freely programmable. The MP2600iec motion module has been specifically designed for deployment with Yaskawa's high-performance Sigma-5 series of servo drives. The module features plug-in installation in the servo drive and offers all the benefits of IEC61131-1-standard and PLCopen Motion-based control, according to the company.
