Ondrives Introduces Titanium Precision Spur Gears

Ondrives' latest power transmission catalogue, released in February 2011, features a range of titanium precision spur gears, suitable for lightweight applications. 'We are constantly updating our gear range in order to make them as extensive as possible, offering customers more choice than ever in terms of materials, types and sizes,' said Amanda Laughton, marketing manager. Titanium has been chosen as it has a low density and is a strong, lustrous, corrosion-resistant material with a silver colour.

According to the company, the two most useful properties of the metal are its corrosion resistance and its high strength-to-weight ratio. Unalloyed, titanium is as strong as some steels, but 45 per cent lighter in weight, making it suitable for lightweight applications. At present, the titanium precision spur gear range starts at a 0.5 module going up to 1.5 as standard. Larger sizes are planned for the future.

All are made to Quality Grade 7e DIN 58405 (AGMA Q11), with other grades available on request. Teeth numbers start at 20 going up to 250, and optional extras such as different bore sizes, tapped holes, pin holes and keyways are available where required. Ondrives can quote to customers' special requirements where necessary and offer a free technical advice service on a no-obligation basis.
