Transducer Fits Cylinders Handling Extreme Loads

Balluff has introduced a high-pressure-rated rod-style transducer with a working pressure of 1,000 bar for hydraulic cylinders handling extreme loads. Micropulse CD transducers ensure that extreme loads are controlled and precisely moved. They are based on the proven magnetostrictive distance-measuring technology. With an absolute and non-contact measuring principle, it is suited for reliable, highly precise and dynamic measurement of the piston position in hydraulic cylinders.

The special flange and rod design, as well as the especially stable stainless-steel material, guarantee the Micropulse CD transducer for use as a feedback system in demanding applications. The Micropulse BTL CD transducer, which is independently certified by MPA University in Stuttgart, is available with stroke lengths from 25 to 2,000mm. Able to withstand pressure peaks of 1,350 bar, the transducer outer rod has diameter of 12.7mm, an outer wall thickness of 3.25mm and is manufactured from HP160 stainless steel. Analogue current and voltage outputs are available, plus digital pulse, SSI, Profibus and CANopen interfaces.

The transducer is also the first such system to achieve an EX rating for zone 2, ignition class nA. The BTL CD has all the advantages of the Balluff Micropulse 600-bar rated transducers. These transducers are suitable for applications that require a high degree of reliability and precision. Suitable for measurement lengths between 25 and 7,500mm, Micropulse displacement systems are extremely versatile. The non-contact working principle of the systems ensures a complete absence of wear and a virtually endless service life.

The high-precision output signal serves as an absolute signal for the controller in a range of different interfaces. The BTL CD is aimed at the construction, offshore and specialist machinery (forging presses, lift and hoist technology) markets.
