Software Analyses Compressed Audio-Video Signals

Rohde and Schwarz (RandS) has launched the Vega Suite, a set of software tools designed for in-depth, offline analysis of media files on a PC. Broadcast operators and service providers can use this software to find signal faults and optimise content. Manufacturers of DTV components use the RandS Vega Suite to check that their products are standard compliant, for quality assurance testing, and to improve the performance of their products.

Rohde and Schwarz said the software is suitable for analysing compressed audio and video signals and MPEG-2 transport streams. To ensure network availability, broadcast operators and service providers can use the RandS DVM and RandS DVMS monitoring systems and the RandS ETL TV analyser to immediately detect faults in live signals and record the faulty signal segments. The RandS Vega Suite makes it possible to analyse these segments and their video and audio characteristics in detail on a PC Signal faults are quickly found and eliminated, allowing operators to optimise the quality of their content.

Visualisation options simplify analysis while the save function makes it easy to document results. The RandS Vega Suite supports the latest standards and technologies, making it useful for developers of DTV components and devices such as encoders, multiplexers and transcoders. The company said the software is suitable for analysing MPEG-2 transport streams (DVB, ATSC, ISDB) and MXF files. The H.264, H.264 SVC, H.264 MVC, H.263, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AVS, VC-1 video formats can be analysed.

The MPEG-1/MPEG-2 Audio, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby E, AAC, HE-AAC and MP3 audio standards are supported. Data streams such as teletext, DVB subtitling, closed captioning, XDS and EPG can also be analysed. Manufacturers can use the software to check their products for compliance with relevant standards and for interoperability, coding efficiency and audio-video synchronisation. To save time, batch processing can be used to automatically analyse multiple files. The RandS Vega Suite software was developed by Interra Systems.
