Low-Side MOSFET Drivers for Consumer Electronics
Microchip Technology has introduced the MCP14E6/7/8 and MCP14E9/10/11 low-side MOSFET drivers, designed to reduce the board space required to drive power supplies in consumer electronic applications. The drivers are said to complement the company's existing 4.5A MCP14E3/4/5 low-side drivers by offering peak output currents of 2A and 3A respectively. The range has a wide operating voltage range of 4.5V to 18V and features enable input pins to provide a shutdown capability for conserving power.
The drivers are offered in eight-pin SOIC and eight-pin, 6 x 5mm DFN packages to reduce the board space required to drive power supplies in servers, personal computers and notebooks. The expanded range of MOSFET drivers are said to help engineers to reduce power consumption while also delivering more features in smaller packages at low cost. The MCP14E6/7/8 dual devices are rated for a peak output current of 2A, while the dual MCP14E9/10/11 drivers are rated for a peak output current of 3A. The drivers' wide operating voltage of 4.5V to 18V supports a range of input voltages, while the small packages lower costs by reducing board space.
