ESAB Demonstration Unit to Return to UK in June

The ESAB Demobus, a mobile demonstration unit that showcases welding and cutting methods, will return to the UK in June 2011. On board, ESAB will display a range of welding and cutting products including the latest development in MIG, TIG and MMA welding machines, automation equipment, welding consumables and personal protective equipment and welding accessories. There will also be live welding and cutting demonstrations of MIG, TIG, MMA and plasma cutting products. Technical experts from the company will be on hand throughout the tour to discuss all aspects of welding and cutting.

The Demobus will visit a number of locations: on 14 June, it will be at the Newbury Welding event in Newbury; on 15 June, it will go to Geartrodes in Port Talbot; it will be at Engweld in Warley on 16 June; it will visit the East of England Show in Peterborough on 17-19 June; on 20 June, it will be found at Engweld in Sutton-in-Ashfield; it will visit Truflame in Sheffield on 21 June; and, finally, on 23-26 June, it will be found on the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh in conjunction with Weldsafe.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
