Pressure Sensors Suitable for Handheld Devices

The HCLA series of pressure sensors from Sensortechnics is designed for applications such as medical devices, instrumentation, environmental controls and heating, ventilation and air conditioning. The pressure sensors measure ultra-low gauge or differential pressures from 2.5mbar full scale. The sensors perform precision digital signal conditioning and achieve high accuracies, according to the company. The HCLA series provides a digital IC bus interface and an analogue 0.5-4.5V output signal.

This is designed to give OEM customers increased design flexibility in order to build up redundancy functionality for safety-critical applications, for example. The sensors can directly communicate with microcontrollers without the need for additional analogue-to-digital converters. In addition, digital SPI bus and custom-specific outputs are available on request. According to Sensortechnics, HCLA pressure sensors use a special compensation technique to achieve a high offset stability and virtually no position sensitivity.

Together with an optional 3V supply (standard 5V), the sensors are suitable for battery-powered portable or handheld devices. A range of miniature single inline and SMT housing options allows for flexible and space-saving printed circuit board mounting. All HCLA pressure sensors can be modified according to customer-specific requirements in terms of pressure range, resolution and internal digital settings.
