The new generation of labeling adhesives

At the Brau Beviale, a capital goods fair for the beverage industry, Henkel will be showcasing its Optal XP product series, a new generation of synthetic adhesives for glass bottle labeling, in the Nürnberg Exhibition Center (Hall 4A/311) from November 9 to 11.

The brewing industry has relied for decades on tried and trusted casein adhesives to label its glass bottles. Henkel has now achieved a technological breakthrough by introducing its new casein-free product series, Optal XP. For the first time, synthetic adhesives are showing high performance. They have to cover a broad application spectrum with a versatile properties profile to make sure that labels will not come away when exposed to condensation water but can still be removed when the bottles are cleaned.

The new products based on powerful polymers show good initial tack and excellent machinability while supporting fast setting and drying, thus helping to significantly reduce adhesive usage rates.

Extensive long-term tests have shown that the Optal XP series satisfies high customer expectations in all respects. In addition to their excellent wet tack, the adhesives also exhibit good adhesion to chilled glass surfaces. The food and beverage industry can therefore turn to a powerful and efficient range of products that cover the entire spectrum of bottle labeling needs, including sophisticated adhesive solutions with high ice-water and condensation-water resistance. The products also have FDA approval, are free of toxic ingredients and contain no alkylphenol ethoxylates, zinc or borax.
