On a successful track with a first-class partner

The vehicles in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup exhibit reliable performance under the most challenging conditions. Henkel’s Automotive and General Industry divisions are powerful partners with their sophisticated technologies, supporting Porsche in its race for success. With its Loctite brand, Henkel, the innovation leader in the field of adhesives, sealants, and surface treatment, has been supporting the entire Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup series as an official sponsor for four years now. Henkel will once again be visible on all of the Porsche 911 GT3 race cars during the 2012 season.

Many people will be watching intently on television when the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup starts in Bahrain on April 20, 2012. Last year alone, more than 21 million spectators followed the motorsport events in the context of Formula 1 at courses that are famous around the world, such as the Nürburgring in Germany. After several years of collaboration with Henkel’s General Industry division and Loctite, Henkel, the global market leader in the field of adhesive technologies, has broadened its partnership to include its Automotive division. This enhanced partnership features specially tailored solutions for the entire automotive value chain, product consultations, and technical support over the entire racing season. The renowned Henkel logo and the Loctite brand logo will be embossed on all 450 horsepower race cars, thereby proclaiming the competence of Henkel’s high-tech brands. “Porsche encapsulates what we offer in the field of adhesives, sealants, and surface treatment in a unique manner - this means, innovative technologies and specially tailored solutions for our customers along the entire value chain”, said Paul Kirsch, President Automotive at Henkel. “For this reason, we are particularly pleased to have found such a first-class partner in Porsche and to be supporting this unique sporting event.”

Close collaboration on multiple levels

Porsche stands for technological perfection and the utmost in quality. To this end, Porsche needs strong partners’ support with their innovative products and top-notch service. Henkel’s products from its Automotive and General Industry division make a substantial contribution in this regard and are regularly tested by Porsche. This leads to advantages for both parties, as Porsche is able to access the latest technologies from Henkel, and Henkel is placed in a position to improve its products further thanks to the test results and comparative data supplied by Porsche. A particular focus of the collaboration is on innovation and quality, two values that each of the companies stand for. “Henkel’s Adhesive Technologies and Porsche are a very good fit for each other, and we are very much looking forward to the coming race season,” stressed Florian Kurz, Head of Business Relations at Porsche Motorsport.

Loctite makes lightweight construction for fast vehicles possible

The Porsche 911 GT3 race cars weigh only 1,200 kilograms (2,645 pounds). This lightweight construction is made possible by the employment of alternative materials such as aluminum and composite materials. Because such materials cannot be welded together, alternative solutions needed to be found. Engineers from Porsche and Henkel have worked together to find a precise solution, both for Porsche’s race car model as well as for the regular 911 GT3 series. Loctite products are used in the manufacturing of the engine, the transmission, and the differential. Porsche trusts the proven long-term performance of Loctite threadlockers for securing screws, as well as products for sealing surfaces and flanges, so that the vehicles operate reliably under extreme conditions.
