Henkel solutions address miniaturization, sustainability and cost-efficiency in modern electronics

As the functionality of modern electronics products has increased exponentially in tandem with decreasing dimensions, the demands on performance and reliability of electronic materials have reached an unprecedented level. Today’s electronic materials – spanning nearly all market sectors – must deliver on consumer performance expectations while also ensuring environmental responsibility and lower costs. Addressing these challenges, Henkel has developed a range of innovations which it will debut from stand 263 in hall 4 at productronica, taking place from 15th to 18th November in Munich, Germany.

Environmental responsibility is a central issue for electronics manufacturers, with halogen-free processing a key component of eco-conscious operations. Henkel has developed two new halogen-free solder products that satisfy sustainability initiatives while sacrificing nothing in the way of performance. MULTICORE HF200 is a lead-free, zero-halogen solder paste that offers all of the reliability, processability, low voiding performance and humidity resistance of previous-generation products but does so in a zero-halogen formulation. Its performance has been proven in multiple soldering processes including handheld applications. Henkel’s MULTICORE MF390HR halogen-free no-clean flux delivers the high activity required for advanced wave soldering operations. With exceptional through-hole penetration, minimal residues and a sustained performance that enables a broad process window, this flux system has been successfully applied in automotive processes but is also ideal for consumer electronics applications in the handheld (telecommunications) sector.

With the industrial electronics market in mind, Henkel has developed a pair of breakthrough electrically conductive adhesive (ECA) technologies that overcome many of the shortcomings of competitive materials. ABLESTIK ICP-3535M1 is a single component ECA that enables manufacturers to incorporate lower cost tin-terminated components and thus obtain a cost-effective, lead-free, high reliability assembly. The material has excellent electrical and adhesion stability, no bleeding or wicking on miniaturized components and can be cured quickly at low temperature. For automotive applications where both high flexibility and excellent conductivity are required, Henkel has designed the first-ever high-end conductive silicone adhesive technology. In fact, ABLESTIK ICP-4000 has already been qualified and is being used for automotive sensor products where components are bonded to metal leadframes inside plastic housings. Historically, the CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) mismatch between the metal and the plastic has introduced damaging stress to the device. But, Henkel’s conductive silicone technology is able to absorb this stress, maintain the bond and deliver the electrical interconnect between the component and the leadframe.

Henkel’s comprehensive portfolio of underfills has also been augmented by a new advanced material that meets an unprecedented array of complex and demanding requirements. The new HYSOL product is a halogen free, reworkable epoxy capillary underfill with a high Tg (glass transition temperature). This material is designed for CSP and BGA devices and is particularly well suited for handheld communication and entertainment applications. It cures quickly at moderate temperatures, thus minimizing stress on other components, and when cured provides excellent mechanical stress protection for solder joints. This high-Tg underfill also provides an enhanced thermal cycling performance for small-pitch wafer level chip scale packages (WLCSPs) that is unattainable with low-Tg reworkable underfills. The unique formulation offers superb reworkability while maintaining excellent drop and thermal cycling protection.

All of these latest materials advances will be showcased from Henkel’s stand, 263 in hall 4, at productronica in Munich, Germany, from November 15th to 18th. Technical experts will be on hand to discuss how these innovations can help enable more efficient, high reliability and environmentally sustainable processes. Show delegates are invited to visit Henkel anytime throughout the four-day event.

Banner Engineering DF-G3 Discrete Fiber Amplifier Features World-Class Long Range Sensing Capability

Banner Engineering introduces its DF-G3 discrete long-range fiber amplifier with dual digital displays for use with plastic and glass fiber optic assemblies. Featuring increased sensing power, the DF-G3 can sense more than 3 meters (10 ft.) with opposed mode fibers or more than 1 meter (3 ft.) with diffuse mode fibers. The extra power provides increased detection reliability for dark targets at long range and enhanced detection sensitivity when using specialty fiber assemblies for large area and small part detection applications.

The DF-G3 is available with a single discrete output or two dual discrete outputs. The dual discrete outputs can be independently taught to trigger at different intensity values, which is ideal for correct part-in-place or error-proofing, bottle down, and edge guiding applications.

“We developed the DF-G3 fiber amplifier to meet our customers’ need to precisely detect smaller targets at longer ranges” said Dennis Smith, Senior Marketing Manager, Banner Engin…

IDEC Releases New Line of High Efficiency Power Supplies

IDEC Corporation announces the PS5R-V line of DIN-rail power supplies, offering their customers high-efficiency in a compact form factor at competitive prices. These power supplies suit a wide range of needs in the industrial marketplace, and carry all of the required certifications necessary for use in these demanding applications. This next generation of the industry standard PS5R power supply family has updated features and specifications to meet current and future needs.

The PS5R-V line of power supplies includes 10W, 15W, 30W, 60W and 120W versions, with additional versions coming soon. These power supplies have a very compact form factor with overall dimensions reduced by up to 25% from previous generations. The reduced form factors combine with DIN-rail mounting to free up valuable control panel space and reduce installation costs.

Operating temperature ranges up to -25 to +75 degrees C offer more versatility. These extended operating temperature ranges often allow these power…

TURCK is now offering the option to completely shield M8 picofast ® cordsets by connecting a braided shield directly to the coupling nut. This provides a cost-effective and reliable connection with 100 percent cable and connector shielding, which protects against electromagnetic and radio frequency interference.

The 3 and 4-pin cordsets are available with flexlife ® PVC or PUR jacketed cable. All connectors deliver IEC IP 67 protection.

The M8 picofast line, like most TURCK cordsets, provides male or female, straight and right angle connectors, standard and custom lengths, and pigtails or extensions. Fully encapsulated mating receptacles are also offered, completing the system.
