Adhesives for filters with enhanced thermal stability

Filter manufacturers can now process their products with adhesives that are even more thermally stable – and save money at the same time. Henkel, the global leader in adhesives, sealants and surface treatments is presenting its innovative adhesives at the World Filtration Congress in Graz, Austria, from April 16 to 20.

High-performance adhesives are indispensable for the production of industrial filters. They fulfill important design functions such as the stabilization and end bonding of folded filter media or the joining of filter media to frame parts. The adhesives used must meet high quality standards, since they will be exposed in use to many different kinds of stresses, resulting from heat, pressure and chemicals. Add to that the demands on manufacturing efficiency: Filters are normally manufactured in large quantities, which requires fast cycling during adhesive dispensing as well as highly economical product usage.

Macroplast UK 1352

The new polyurethane adhesive Macroplast UK 1352 developed by Henkel offers multiple advantages here. A filter bonded with this adhesive can withstand continuous operating temperatures of up to 120 degrees Celsius, double the temperature resistance of the predecessor product. In addition, the innovative adhesives reaches handling strength at room temperature after only 15 minutes.

For filter manufacturers, Macroplast represents a viable alternative to traditional epoxy adhesives. The latter have to be processed hot, are therefore energy-intensive, and take about one hour to cure. Moreover, they also cost more to buy.

Adhesives for potable water filters

Further innovations for the filter sector are the two new Henkel developments Macroplast CR 3529 and Macroplast CR 8605, both of which have been approved for use in potable water filters. These adhesives also have double the temperature resistance of their predecessors – up to 80 degrees Celsius in continuous operation.

Low application amounts and strong bonding

The guiding principle for the adhesives developers at Henkel is always to aim for achieving the required bonding strength with the lowest possible product usage. The various types and uses of filter systems – from automotive and HVAC applications through to medical and water purification technology – make very different demands on the adhesives as well.

Customers will be able talk to Henkel experts at the World Filtration Congress, the global flagship event for the industry. Henkel will be exhibiting its new developments and other adhesives for the filter industry at Stand H12.
