ZMDI Launches Easy-to-Use Single-Phase Digital Point-Of-Load (POL) Chipset for Rapid Development of Smart Power Management Solutions
“ZMDI’s true-digital Smart Power Management products are easy-to-use and enable the power engineer to quickly achieve a reproducible high-performance and optimized solution. While the device is running, optimizations can be made on the fly, which improves time-to-market of our customers,” explains Bernhard Huber, business line manager for standard components at ZMDI. “Compared to traditional pure analog solutions, the digital communication enables tremendous energy savings and thermal management benefits through system level integration. Power engineers will appreciate the way our Pink Power Designer™ design optimizer tool balances design trade-offs such as cost, size and efficiency and helps to quickly identify the optimal POL solution”
The ZSPM1000 provide best-in-class transient performance, enabled by ZMDI’s Tru-Sample™ technology. At the same time, ZMDI’s State-Law™ technique ensures a good steady-state behavior.
The ZSPM9000 DrMOS is the ideal companion for ZMDI’s ZSPM1000 for non-isolated Point-of-Load (POL) supplies. An internal linear regulator enables the ZSPM9000 to operate from a single supply.
The ZSPM1000 digital POL controller IC comes in smallest standard package currently available: a 24-pin QFN package of 4mm x 4mm. The ZSPM9000 comes in a matching ultra-compact 40-pin PQFN package of 6mm x 6mm and provides 72% space saving compared to conventional discrete solutions.
The PC-based ZMDI Pink Power Designer provides a user-friendly and easy-to-use interface to the device for communication and configuration. It guides the user through the design of the digital compensator and offers intuitive configuration methods for additional features such as protection and sequencing.
The ZSPM1000 controller and the ZSPM9000 DrMOS are in full production now and a complete evaluation kit, the ZSPM8000-KIT, and the PC-based Pink Power design tools are available from ZMDI. For 10,000 pieces, the chipset is priced at €2,12 or US$3,21.
