ITS Cements UK Partnership at ICONICS’ Summit

Industrial Technical System’s Business Area Manager Graham Ives and Marketing Executive Trina Ives enjoyed VIP treatment at ICONICS’ World Wide Customer Summit and 25th Anniversary Celebration this summer, and were able to cement their UK partnership with ICONICS in style.

For Trina and Graham there was an opportunity to mix business and pleasure by incorporating some spectacular sightseeing, both before and during the summit. When they arrived in the US, the couple spent time in Boston before travelling to Rhode Island, taking in such sights as the 52-floor Prudential Tower, the city’s second tallest building, and picturesque Harvard, Massachusetts, home to America’s oldest university, founded in 1636.

The 2011 summit at Newport, Rhode Island brought together customers, systems integrators, OEMs and channel partners in the beautiful surroundings of the Hyatt Regency Hotel  on the private Goat Island,
to hear of the latest breakthroughs in industrial and building automation software solutions.

Graham and Trina experienced at first-hand presentations from industry technical experts who are applying ICONICS’ solutions to attain operational excellence, increase productivity and achieve greater return on investment, providing them with information and expertise to pass on to ITS’ UK customers.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved. However, if sizing at this level prevents the motor from starting, it may then be necessary to increase the fuse ampere rating and it then becomes important to know the NEC sizing limitations.
