Vortex® Goes Mobile at Gulf Coast Solids Show

Vortex® Valves North America will introduce the new Vortex® Titan Series Abrasion Resistant Slide Gate at the Gulf Coast Solids Handling & Processing Show, Booth 324, March 23 and 24, in Pasadena, TX. Vortex will also display a Mobile Display Unit (MDU) outside of the Pasadena Convention Center giving live demonstrations of Vortex’s air actuated valves and diverters. The valves in the MDU are fully functional and operational allowing tradeshow attendees to see how the valves operate.

The Vortex® Titan Series Abrasion Resistant Slide Gate closes through a standing column of abrasive material and still has a dust-tight seal.

The Vortex® Titan Series Abrasion Resistant Slide Gate is as robust as the Vortex® Aggregate Gate™, but has the superior dust-tight seal of the Vortex® Roller Gate. The new valve is the perfect gate for abrasive materials such as whole grains, coal, metal powders or minerals up to 400° F (204° C). The heavy duty frame is constructed of carbon steel with a beveled, abrasion resistant steel blade and a displacement pocket on the closing end of the valve. The Titan Gate is available in standard sizes from 6” to 30” (100mm to 750mm) with custom square or rectangular sizes up to 72” (1.8m) and larger.

The slide gate features “live loaded” wear compensating seals that prevent material from escaping into the bonnet area of the gate. These seals are easily replaced without removing the valve from the processing line. The gate utilizes easily accessible, hardened steel cam-adjustable rollers instead of blade guides – a feature that is critical to maintaining a positive seal.

Other Vortex Valves products that will be displayed at the Gulf Coast Solids booth will be the Vortex® Quantum® Series Orifice Gate™ and the Vortex® Quantum® Series Wye Line Diverter™. Vortex utilizes precision laser cutting and bending technology to manufacture these leading-edge valves.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
