ebalta Casts the Net to UK Customers

ebalta a leading supplier of polyurethane and epoxy systems, including blocks, boards and liquid systems recently invited a group of key UK customers to a Cast-to-Size Open Day at the ebalta head quarters and manufacturing site in Rothenberg-ob-der-Tauber, Germany.

Customers from the UK taking the opportunity to participate in the Open Day included representatives from; Ford Motor Company, Visioneering, DPS Designs, FRH Group, Cordek and Patterns and Moulds.

The two day trip offered key UK customers the opportunity for a personal tour of the ebalta manufacturing and business facilities as well as providing them with the opportunity to speak directly with the ebalta management team and technical specialists, who were all on-hand to advise on any design, product or application questions as well as offering their expertise to evaluate the best solutions for customer specific projects.

The tour of the facility included an in depth look around the newly inaugurated cast-to-size manufacturing building, where the visitors were able to see firsthand, both demonstrations and the processing of a variety of the ebablock® net size casting materials developed and supplied by ebalta. The tour also included previewing the new, high output dispensing machine, recently purchased and installed by ebalta specifically for completing larger cast-to-size tools, due to ever increasing customer demands for the technology.

The Open Day also comprised a selection of short presentations on modelling paste and two newly introduced ebablock materials with a detailed walk through of the internal processes ebalta uses to ensure all customer information supplied can be securely handled for confidential projects.

The success of the event was evident; resulting in several of the companies involved requesting quotes for cast-to-size blocks and one company placing an order the very next day, following the visit to Germany. "The Open Day was concise and very informative" commented Richard Wooldridge, Rapid Product Development Manager, Ford Motor Company. "The factory tour was very interesting and it clearly showed us the capabilities of ebalta in this application area."

"The event was excellently organised and very instructive." commented Adrian Coppin, Operations Manager, Visioneering. "Seeing the practical application firsthand was extremely beneficial and ebalta provided us with exactly the right balance of presented information and hands-on practical demonstrations."

ebablock materials are supplied to customers through an innovative manufacturing technique, which produces an individual, bespoke sized, semi-finished, near net size casting, that can then be machined accurately by the customer to the final dimensions required. Cast-to-size blocks of up to 1000kg have been cast by ebalta providing solutions for applications in design, composites, mould and tool making and foundry markets.

Benefits of this technology include minimal wastage, minimal machining, fast turnaround times and no bond lines from joining individual boards. ebalta develops and manufactures a range of over 20 polyurethane and epoxy cast-to-size materials, including ebablock 105, 185, 708, EP138, M007, PW920 and W, along with all necessary accessories such as colour matched putties and repair compounds.

"The event was a great success for us." commented Darrell Cross, Managing Director, ebalta UK. "It gave us a great insight into understanding our customer's requirements and evaluating the potential for this innovative manufacturing technology in the UK market."
