EPOS2 24/2 - Miniaturized Positioning Controller - No Ifs, No Buts.

EPOS (easy to use positioning system) is being expanded again in a second generation. Several variants of the EPOS2 24/2 positioning controller permit the use of various brushed DC motors with encoder or brushless EC motors with Hall sensors and encoder up to 48 Watts.

As with all other maxon motor EPOS products, the EPOS2 24/2 was developed specifically for commanding and controlling in the CANopen network. USB and RS232 are available as further communication interfaces. The variety of operating modes, such as position, velocity and current mode, means they can be used flexibly in automation technology, tool building and in mechatronic drive systems. There are also functions such as «Step/Direction Mode» for the incrementally controlled movement of the motor shaft or «Master Encoder Mode» for applying the drive as electronic gearing. Commanding through an analog set value voltage may replace conventional servo amplifier applications.

The EPOS2 24/2 features outstanding motion control functionalities, the controls, for instance, offering a dual loop position and speed controller. In «Interpolated Position Mode» (PVT), the position controller is able to synchronously follow a path set by support points; highly dynamic and with great precision. During start-up, current, speed or position controls can be set extremely efficiently through enhanced «Regulation Tuning». This intelligent solution is easy to use and again highlights the benefits of the positioning controller. Integration into the «EPOS Studio»graphical user interface enables rational parameterization.
Commanding can take place using CAN Master, for example EPOS2 P, SPS, Soft SPS, PLC or using PC via USB or RS232. Several drives can be networked and coordinated through the standardized CANopen interface. Additionally integrated gateway functions such as USB to CAN or RS232 to CAN help simplify access to the CAN network even more.

The EPOS2 24/2 quasi represents the synonym for the currently possible degree of miniaturization in positioning controller design. More power, more functionality, and more comfort in such a small space are today almost impossible. The different variants of the EPOS2 24/2 are fully compatible with its predecessor EPOS 24/1 and can be combined with any controller of the series EPOS2, EPOS, EPOS2 P and EPOS P within a CAN network.
