Zilog Announces New “World of Sensors Board” Supporting the Mini-Z® Stamp Family Featuring a Wide Array of Sensor Solutions

Zilog, a wholly-owned subsidiary of IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ:IXYS) and the pioneer supplier of application-specific, embedded microcontroller (MCU) system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for industrial, power management and consumer applications, today introduces a new reference design, its new World of Sensors Design Board.

The World of Sensors (WoS) Design Board offers Zilog customers greater freedom to design products that may require several types of sensing solutions within the same design. It’s a complete and easy-to-use development platform for Zilog’s series of Mini-Z® stamp modules, designed to provide engineers, students and enthusiasts a simple-to-use platform for developing prototypes and projects incorporating multiple sensors. These sensors range from simple weather terminals to robotics. The World of Sensors Design Board indeed includes a world of sensing technology with which you can easily experiment, including the following seven different sensors, each on different peripherals: anAccelerometer, an Ambient Light Sensor, aHumidity Sensor, aMicrophone, a Pressure Sensor, a Proximity Sensor, and a Temperature Sensor.

The WoS Design Board ships complete with a serial LCD display and USB serial communications; serial cables are not required. Engineered to capitalize on the advanced functionality of Zilog’s series of Mini-Z modules, the WoS Design Board showcases the interaction of these sensors – independent of the module being used – and enables even more creative projects by just swapping out modules, which offer multiple types of built-in wireless support. The new World of Sensors Design Board is designed to work best with Zilog’s series of Mini-Z modules and, in essence, you can begin your project with what you already have and add other Mini-Z Modules later when you are ready for these modules’ unique features.

“Zilog, as a part of IXYS, maintains a continuing commitment to supporting our customers with a long product life cycle, especially in power management, where IXYS has been growing worldwide. With the growth of digital power management in energy-efficient products for clean energy generation, automation, appliances, automotive, lighting and telecommunication, we believe that also offering these Mini-Z platforms and Reference Designs allows us to accelerate the adoption of our MCU solutions in these markets,” said Steve Darrough, Zilog’s VP of Marketing.

“The World of IXYS, especially for our customers, now includes power semiconductors, analog ICs, Mixed-Signal ICs, SSRs, MCUs and RF devices to complete a synergy of system design possibilities like no other semiconductor company. These are indeed exciting times for Zilog and IXYS.”

Zilog’s Mini-Z Stamps and Boards are now available for customers directly from the online Zilog Store.
