New Strong Frame™ Ordinary Moment Frame Software for Canada

In an effort to increase design efficiency, Simpson Strong-Tie has developed its Canadian Strong Frame™ Selector software. This free program helps designers select the appropriate Strong Frame ordinary moment frame for their project based on simple input geometry.

The Canadian Strong Frame Selector software will narrow down the 336 available stock frames to a handful of possible solutions. Only minimum input geometries are required for the software to select an appropriate frame for the available space. If opening dimensions are outside stock frame sizes, designers can enter the specific opening dimensions, and the program will provide possible customized solutions.

The Canadian Strong Frame Selector software can accommodate uniform, partial uniform and point loads placed anywhere along the span of the beam. It also provides anchorage design for the selected frame. Both concise and detailed output options are available.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
