Compact, Stand-Alone Safety Controller

The VAS-2A8L-KE4-8SE is an innovative programmable safety controller that's cost-effective, adaptable, and easy to install, configure, and run.  This safety controller is a compact and flexible stand-alone solution that delivers the performance and price point that is right for even the smallest systems, with an expansion port that enables it to grow with the application.  The safety controller provides four redundant safe inputs and two independent safe electronic outputs.  It runs on standard 24 VDC and allows any safe device with dry contacts or electronic safe outputs to be used.

“The market is flooded with safety relays and configurable safety controllers that can get the job done. Most of the higher-end solutions are too complex and costly for all but the largest and most difficult applications while low-end controllers lack the necessary flexibility to adapt when application requirements change, even just a little,” says Helge Hornis, PhD, Manager Intelligent Systems Group.

“And no matter how well a system is planned out, things happen and needs change.  This is why the new Pepperl+Fuchs approach is so ingenious.  Not only is it ideal for safety applications using a small number of safe inputs, but its flexibility makes it easy to add safe inputs and outputs by simply connecting enclosure or field mounted safety expansion modules or intelligent safety devices to the unit’s expansion port,” continues Hornis.

Connecting safety devices to this safety controller is as simple as wiring a conventional safety relay.  Removable terminals simplify installation and field service.  An intuitive drag-and-drop application interface makes it easy to configure even complex safety operations in just minutes.  When the configuration is downloaded into the safety controller, documentation is automatically created, and all necessary data is backed up on a memory card.  This makes it fast, easy, and error-free to add or replace a safety controller.
