Agilent Technologies Microwave Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer Among R&D Magazine's R&D 100

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced that its 4100 Microwave Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer (MP-AES) is among the winners of the prestigious R&D 100 Award, which recognizes the 100 most technologically significant products introduced into the marketplace over the past year.

"The 4100 MP-AES fundamentally changed the way scientists conduct elemental analysis," said Philip Binns, Agilent vice president for spectroscopy products. "Its launch in 2011 created an entirely new product category while offering the lowest cost of ownership for elemental analysis, along with improved laboratory safety. We are honored that this breakthrough elemental analysis instrument was recognized with an R&D 100 Award."

The R&D 100 Awards have long been a benchmark of excellence for industry sectors as diverse as telecommunications, high-energy physics, software, manufacturing and biotechnology. Winners are selected by an independent judging panel and the editors of R&D Magazine.

The 4100 MP-AES uses a nitrogen-based plasma generator that runs on air, and thus does not require flammable or expensive gases. With no external cylinder connections required and no need for ongoing gas supplies, the 4100 MP-AES is ideal for any elemental analysis laboratory, especially remote sites and mobile laboratories. By eliminating the need to plumb multiple gases into the laboratory or manually transport and handle gas cylinders, the 4100 MP-AES also improves lab safety.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays.
