“CN-A24 Series” DC-DC Power Module of DC 24V Input Type

TDK-Lambda Corporation (President : Yoshiaki Hirota, Head Office : Nihonbashi, Chuoku, Tokyo), a group company of TDK Corporation, starts taking orders for the newly developed “CN-A24 series” of DC-DC power module that is best suited for use in railway related equipment. Order taking will commence on July 20, 2011.

The “CN-A24 series” is a family of DC-DC power modules that is optimal for use in railway related equipment. Both input voltage range (14.4V ~ 36Vdc) and resistance to shock and vibration (EC61373 Category 1 Class B) are compliant with the applicable railway standards. Its high reliability design offers a long warranty period of 5 years. It also features compact size adopting global standard brick sizes. The “CN-A24 series” will be marketed for use in railway related equipment under the brand of “TDK-Lambda”.

Railway related equipment require high reliability and safety due to their nature. So many countries have established safety standards such as JIS of Japan and other international standards (IEC, ISO, DIN, EN, etc.). Railway related equipment are classified broadly into ground installations and railway vehicles and their constructional elements are diversified. As a result, power supplies used for such equipment are in general made custom to fit particular needs. In recent years, as requirements for energy conservation for the sake of environment protection grow, so do requirements for small and efficient power supplies of standard type that are readily available.

Railway related equipment usually use DC-DC power supplies of unit type or PCB type. A module type has been used in communication equipment and other devices that primarily use DC-DC power supplies. In the mean time, railway related equipment have also started to show trends of using small size power supplies. As a consequence, requirement for thinner power supplies such as DC-DC power modules that allow flexible mounting layouts has been growing. With respect to input voltage range, power supplies with input voltage of DC 24V has the second highest demand following the DC 110 type. In response to such market requirement, we have expanded our product family. We expect that the addition of the new CN-A24 series to the existing
CN-A100 series (60-160Vdc) will accelerate the adoption of our DC-DC power modules in the field of railway related equipment.

In addition to marketing them as stand alone models, we will actively pursue to promote them as components of Embedded power supplies* that have high added value to users. We will continue to expand our product family based on opinions of users and pursue this strategic market segment.
