LCM Load Cells Measure Tension and Compression

LCM Systems has developed a range of tension and compression load cells for use in applications such as structural testing, cable tension monitoring and press load monitoring. The TCA series load cells can be customised to meet specific application requirements. The load cells are suitable for measuring both tensile and compressive forces and their small size makes them ideal for use where space is limited.

The standard cells are provided with metric threads at each end, designed to accept spherical seating rod-end bearings. LCM Systems can offer versions with male threads at each end, one male and one female or imperial thread sizes. The load cells are constructed from stainless steel and, as standard, have a rated load ranging from one tonne to 100 tonnes (special versions are been manufactured with rated loads up to 1,200 tonnes).

They are weatherproofed to IP66, although IP67 and submersible versions can also be supplied. LCM Systems is able to offer advice on instrumentation to provide a complete customised load monitoring system.

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
