Mill Turn Centre for Machining Medical Equipment
Mori Seiki has expanded its X-class machine range by launching the NTX1000, an integrated mill turn centre designed for machining small precision parts for medical equipment and measuring instruments. The NTX1000, which the company began taking orders for on 14 September 2010, is particularly useful for components that have a complex shape and need high-precision, high-efficiency machining.
Included within the machine are Mori Seiki's DDM (direct drive motor), ORC (octagonal ram construction) and BMT (built-in motor turret) technologies, which deliver accurate and complete machining of small precision parts. Fitted with the latest MAPPS IV operating system, the NTX1000 shares the rounded cover design of all the X-class range, as well as an ergonomic slanted keyboard for easier operation. Its footprint is 40 per cent less than the company's conventional models, offering improved productivity per unit area.
To combat the effects of thermal displacement, the NTX1000's Spindle 1 is designed to maintain its centre in the same position, with a headstock structure symmetrical in the X and Y-axis directions. Slideways for the ORC are located diagonally opposite each other, ensuring heat-related distortion is symmetrical and cancelled out. The combination of automatic programming software and ESPRIT CAM software, which both come as standard, allows the machine to handle complex programming requirements in line with customer's needs.
The 3D interference-checking function, included on all machines, checks for collisions between spindles, workpieces, soft jaws, tools, holders and turrets in 3D, stopping the machine in both automatic and manual modes if an interference is detected. There are eight different NTX models available to meet different machining needs. All are general purpose but each has the flexibility to handle metal cutting usually performed on special machinery, increasing their range of potential applications.
