Innova Design Spotlights Rapid Prototyping

Southern Manufacturing exhibitor Innova Design and Build claims that it can match the benefits of rapid prototyping, yet still be able to supply parts manufactured from the final production material. The company achieves this rapid turnaround using multi-axis CNC to machine from the solid, using five-axis programs created from a 3D CAD model, similar to those employed in conventional rapid prototyping set-ups.

The net result is a process time comparable with rapid prototyping, yet delivering a machined part that offers greater strength, better surface finish and more accurate dimensional control, according to Innova. Using this approach, parts have been manufactured for aerospace, electronics and marine applications in most materials including composites. At Southern Manufacturing 2011, the company will also highlight its experience in the design of electronic enclosures starting from back-of-the-envelope designs and taking them through to functional end products, allowing progression from prototype to low- and medium-volume production.
