ON Semiconductor Expands R&D Operations in Roznov with Opening of a New Design Center Devoted to Energy Efficient Power Solutions
On May 22, the company’s will host an onsite grand opening ceremony at its new Roznov Design Center The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. at 1. máje 2230, 756 61 Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. Company executives will be in attendance, with Keith Jackson, president and CEO of ON Semiconductor, presiding over the opening ceremony. The event is organized under patronage of Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas. Government officials from the Czech Republic and Czechinvest have been invited. Members of the media are welcome.
New Design Center Building
Minimizing the impact on the environment was an important consideration during the design and construction of the new Roznov design center building, which houses 1,000 square meters of high tech laboratories. The building was constructed with power efficient heating and cooling systems. Several innovative energy recuperation systems have also been incorporated, including the transfer of wasted heat for hot water preparation and to warm general office space with the building. High efficiency windows and effective internal insulation have also been installed to further decrease the building’s carbon footprint. The building was designed byTeen Engineering and architect Michael Malysa. The general contractor for construction was Skanska. Last week, the building was awarded “Honorable Mention” in the 2011 Building of the Year Contest for the Industrial Buildings category. The award was given by Czech Chamber of Architects under patronage of regional council president - Zlin region.

Both ON Semiconductor and the Czech government have made important financial investments into the success of our employees here and the company’s R&D, manufacturing and business support operations located in Roznov and Brno. In recent years, ON Semiconductor has expanded its manufacturing capabilities and capacity at its Roznov fabs, built the new Roznov design center facility, and expanded its IT and new product design teams by more than 50 people.

History in Czech Republic
ON Semiconductor’s operations in the Czech Republic date back to 1999 when the company spun off from Motorola and took on the facilities and employees in Roznov. In the years since then, the number of Roznov design center employees has expanded from 12 to more than 100 design engineers. The entire Roznov campus, which includes the design center, a 6-inch wafer manufacturing fab, a silicon wafer production facility and business operations support teams now employs a total of approximately 1,300 people. The design facility ON Semiconductor operates in Brno was acquired in 2008, employs almost 100 people, and is focused primarily on development of state-of-the-art analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for automotive applications. The company is also active with area universities to support and connect electronics engineering education and students with the industry.
