Treadmaster Flooring Selected for Major Australian Rail Project

Treadmaster® floor covering has been selected for a major rail project in Australia involving over 620 rollingstock carriages. A joint venture of Downer EDI Rail and Hitachi is delivering 626 new, air-conditioned Waratah train carriages on behalf of Reliance Rail. The eight-car Waratah trains are being progressively delivered for RailCorp operations from late 2010.

Paul Williams, marketing director for James Walker Australia said; "we have been working with Downer EDI Rail to match their colour requirements and also to meet the technical performance specifications, such as fire resistance, low toxicity and good anti-slip properties. Testing was carried out here in Australia and also in the UK."

The Treadmaster TM8 flooring is adhered to the underlying base floor and is the finished surface that passengers will walk on. The polymer-based flooring includes safety features such as high fire resistance and low smoke toxicity, is very hard wearing, vandal resistant and graffiti resistant.

The Treadmaster flooring range is used extensively on trains for the London underground system and also features on South Africa's first rapid transit system as well as new trains for the London 2012 Olympics. However, this project is the first application for the range in Australia.
