Thomson Recognized as 2011 Control Design Reader’s Choice in Ball Screw and Linear Actuator/Slide/Guide Categories

Thomson has been recognized by Control Design magazine as the 2011 Reader’s Choice for technology excellence in the Ball Screw/Lead Screw and Linear Actuator/Slide/Guide categories. Control Design magazine’s Reader’s Choice awards are the result of an unaided survey of subscribers who have authority to specify, recommend or purchase industrial automation and control products. Hardware and software categories are listed without any list of vendors, and participants are asked to indicate the single best vendor for the products he or she has experience with. Thomson received 23% of reader votes in the ball screw category, and 13% in the linear actuator/slide/guide category.

FUSE SIZING CONSIDERATIONS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY MOTORS

When selecting the proper fuse for short circuit protection in motor starting applications, it is important to not only ensure that the fuse will not nuisance open during motor start up times, but also that the fuse will coordinate as required with overload relays. When sizing fuses between 125% and 150% of the motor nameplate current, several advantages, including ease of coordination with an overload device, a smaller disconnect, and increased short circuit protection from a lower fuse rating, can be achieved.
