Project Staples Sweden
Property Developer GOODMAN invited Loading Systems International late 2009 to quote dock equipment for a prestige project for STAPLES Office Supplies in Växjö Sweden.
The dock equipment specs for this high-tech warehouse, with complex sorting and conveying systems, called for two coupled dock houses with 12 complete loading bays in each dock house. Early this year LSI was invited to the offices of NCC, Sweden’s second biggest general contractor, to negotiate the contract with the presence of the GOODMAN Director Property Development, Mr. P. Peeters.
The two 12 units loading bay dock houses consist of 24 units 232-010 PoweRamp dock levellers, 24 units 407 PowerShelter inflatable dock shelters, 32 electrical PowerDoors as well as a variety of complementary products such as dock lights, protection poles and dock number shields.
To comply with the extreme height of Swedish highway trucks, the dock houses, designed and built by VWNL, have a total height of 5400 mm. As a consequence the 407-006 Dock Shelters have a total height of 4000 mm with a top inflatable cushion of 1300 mm. The centre-to-centre distance between the loading bays of 4000 mm required inflatable side cushions with special steel air chambers to match with the large opening of 4 mtrs. The side cushions are mounted “back-to-back” with the insulated 60 mm panel of the separation walls in between the cushions. For the installation of all equipment including the dock houses with insulated panels we were given not more 3 weeks. An experienced sub-contracted installation team of 3 installation engineers from the Netherlands worked practically 3 weeks without interruption to complete the works on time by the end of September. LSI did the final reception and handover with the building contractor NCC and Goodman without any major irregularities.
Both Goodman and NCC praised the professional workmanship and quality of the products. As a result, we are currently in discussion with NCC for two additional projects in Sweden, one in Göteborg and one in Markaryd.
