The New ODiSI, Enabling High Resolution Strain & Temperature Measurements
The new ODiSI (Optical Distributed Sensor Interrogator) from Luna Technologies builds upon their award winning fibre optic technology to provide a unique and dedicated distributed temperature & strain sensing platform.
Advantages:
Easily deployed, inexpensive, disposable sensors
1000’s of sensing points in a single fibre sensor with a single instrument
Fibre is lightweight, requires no extra wiring, and is immune to EMI/RF interference
Simultaneous strain and temperature measurement with a single fibre sensor
Re-process sensor data at a later time with more/different sensing points
Fibre optic sensor technology is being utilised more widely as demands for lighter, stronger, and safer structures continue to increase. The ODiSI platform provides a sensing solution that is rich in data content, lightweight, robust, easy to install, and does not require expensive Fibre Bragg gratings. ODiSI gathers strain or temperature data along the entire surface under test and allows users to redefine sensing points in post processing; these features are not available with traditional static point sensors.
Specifications:
Two versions, with 50metre or 10metre maximum sensing length
5 mm spatial resolution
+/- 1 microstrain and +/- 0.1 degC accuracy with 1cm gauge length
+/-15,000 microstrain range with 50metre version
+/-13,000 microstrain range with 10metre version
ODiSI provides distinct benefits to the aerospace, automotive, energy, civil engineering and general composites industries (to name a few) by giving greater insight into the design performance, tolerances and failure mechanisms of structures and vehicles.
