EvoDECO 10: A Major Technological Advance on the DECO 10a

The DECO 10 was introduced in 1996; it was the first machine in what was to be the DECO phenomenon. Over 7,000 machines have been sold to date, including 2,500 DECO 10 models. Today, Tornos is introducing the prototype of the successor to the DECO 10, the EvoDECO 10a, at the MédiSiams show. Easier to use and more powerful, the EvoDECO 10 machine is following the path forged by the EvoDECO 16 machine less than a year ago, when it was presented at SIMODEC 2010.

A machine operating in various business sectors

Originally developed for the watchmaking industry, the DECO 10 machine has very quickly demonstrated it is versatile enough to compete in other markets such as electronics and particularly in the medical sector. Capable of producing parts so small that 10,000 of them could fit inside a thimble, it is also capable of producing dental implants or screws up to 10 mm in diameter, all with remarkable precision and stability.

A new challenge

The engineers at Tornos have accomplished the major feat of improving and upgrading the DECO 10 machine, a machine which has made a huge contribution to the success of this company from the Prévôté area, since it was founded in 1996. "The DECO 10 machine had already been improved several times", notes Philippe Charles, Product Manager at Tornos, adding "Tornos is constantly adapting its product to the very exacting requirements of its customers." Right now, the EvoDECO range represents a major technological advance in the range of machines which has revolutionised the bar turning industry today.

Retaining its strengths

The EvoDECO range still features the drivetrain with 4 tool systems and the TB-DECO programming system. It is therefore still possible to engage 4 tools simultaneously into the material. Similarly, the broad selection of tool-holders developed around the DECO range is still compatible with machines from the EvoDECO range. The machine can therefore be integrated in an existing bank of DECO machines with no compatibility problems.

Developing its potential

EvoDECO 10 is more ergonomic and offers greater autonomy; Tornos has worked hard to simplify the maintenance and use of the machine. Particular mention must be made of the automatic cyclic lubrication, the automatic filtration and the pivoting control. The machine spindles now incorporate synchronous motors which enable lightning fast acceleration and deceleration, while minimising the consumption of electricity. The latest finite element method analysis techniques have been used to check the entire structure of the machine. Machining performance levels have therefore been improved; the machine is more rigid and offers greater stability when machining.

Reliability is the watchword

Launched one year ago, EvoDECO 16 gives complete customer satisfaction in its field. In order to guarantee machine reliability, EvoDECO 10 must still pass the final proving phases in order to confirm its launch; the machine will therefore be marketed in the 4th quarter of 2011.
