Eaton’s Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Power Ohio Statehouse

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced the installation of six public Pow-R-Station Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations on the “green level” of the Ohio Statehouse underground parking garage.

“Eaton is honored to help the Ohio Statehouse prepare to meet the coming demand from electric vehicle drivers and offer solutions that promote clean transportation,” said Tom Schafer, vice president and general manager, Eaton’s Electrical Sector. “This is an important part of Eaton’s initiative to build an electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country, and we congratulate the Ohio Statehouse for being the first in the nation to provide this important service.”

The Statehouse, a 150-year-old building that serves as both a place of learning and the state’s working seat of government, is the first in the country equipped to provide electric vehicle charging to the public. The charging stations take a typical electric car battery from zero to full in six to eight hours and operate at a rate of fifty cents per hour, payable by credit card.

With an estimated 40 million plug-in electric vehicles expected to be on the nation’s roads by 2030, the State of Ohio Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) partnered with Eaton for the project in order to establish electric vehicle charging stations in the Statehouse parking garage and provide easy access to energy for area electric vehicle owners. With extensive measures to advance sustainability, such as the electric vehicle chargers, energy-efficient lighting, green cleaning products, a recycling program and conveniently placed bicycle racks, CSRAB has shown a deep commitment to achieving maximum sustainability.

“By making electric vehicle charging stations available for drivers, the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board is taking the lead in promoting energy efficiency,” said William E. Carleton, CSRAB executive director. “The Ohio Statehouse is committed to going green and promoting clean energy, and the installation of this equipment is another example of that commitment.”

Eaton is focused on creating innovative and affordable technologies that help customers reduce their impact on the environment. For more than 20 years, Eaton has been developing innovative electrical and hybrid power systems for commercial vehicles. Eaton is the only company to offer hybrid-electric and hybrid-hydraulic systems for commercial vehicle applications, as well as the charging and networked charging management infrastructure for commercial and residential applications.
