Wire Welder Suits Sheet-Metal Welding

Lincoln Electric has launched the Power MIG 180 Dual wire welder, which is designed for sheet metal welding, light-frame autobody work and farm and small shop applications. Featuring single-phase 60Hz dual 120- and 208/230V input power capability, the Power MIG 180 Dual wire welder can be used to weld at home, in the shop or on the job site. It handles both MIG (GMAW) and flux-cored gas-shielded (FCAW-G) or self-shielded (FCAW-S) processes.

The 68lb (31kg) machine features dual-input power capability, allowing users to select 120V input power for home and generator-driven environments or 208/230V input power for shop applications on thicker materials. No tools are required to toggle between the two input-power voltages. Users simply need to attach the correct power cord and twist the locking nut, providing a safe and easy transition from one input voltage to another. The dual-input power capability extends the machine's welding output, allowing for welding on up to 1/2in steel with self-shielded, flux-cored wire.

The welder has a wire feeder speed range of 50-500ipm (1.2-12.7 m/min) and 30-140A output range operating on 120V input power, or 30-180A output range on 208/230V input power. It is rated 90A/19.5v at 20 per cent duty cycle on 120 input and 130A/20V at 30 per cent duty cycle on 230V input power. According to Lincoln Electric, the Power MIG 180 Dual industrial-cast aluminium drive system delivers positive traction, while its patented split-wire guides ensure optimal wire alignment.

The unit's brass-to-brass gun connection provides improved electrical contact, while its large, industrial closed-design motor improves torque and enhances trouble-free performance. The 180 Dual is designed around Lincoln Electric's patented Diamond Core Technology, which is claimed to deliver a forgiving arc, excellent out-of-position arc action, low spatter and a wide voltage range at a given wire-feed-speed for steel, stainless and aluminium. While shipped with a standard MIG gun for mild steel, stainless steel or aluminum welding, this wire welder is also spool gun-ready right out of the box.

When paired with the Magnum 100SG Spool Gun, the 180 Dual delivers enhanced aluminium feeding. A detachable canvas bag is included for easy storing of input power cables and other accessories. The welder is also designed so that no tools are required for input power changes, wire spool mounting or wire drive service and polarity changes, allowing for maximum up time with minimum fuss.
