Igus Develops Rotary Cable Carrying System
Igus has developed a special-purpose rotary cable carrying system that can be used in place of machines that have rotary motions. The new system, known as Twisterband, is modular, lightweight and simple to install, according to the company. Machine tool applications require a number of services, including electric, oil and pneumatics, in order to run. These services run through various cables or hoses that require protection and guidance to avoid damage and subsequent machine failure.
This is straightforward when the cables run in a linear motion. Some machines, however, have rotary motions that render typical linear cable carrying systems insufficient. The new Twisterband system - the subject of Igus's 'video of the week' - is suitable for use in such applications. Twisterband allows for rotations of up to 3,000deg, +/-1,500deg, and can reach speeds of up to 380deg/sec.
